It really depends on what you'd like to play. But they key is to go and play just that, to put it simply. I never really found any web-sites all that great at teaching guitar, but you can pick up a thing here and there and patch it together. I'd reccomend a book. For my money, you really can't beat something structured that gets progressivly harder and teaches you important skills as you move along, but it all depends on how serious you wanna be. The most effective thing is lessons, but you won't get anything out of them unless you're really serious about learning. I took 7 years worth of weekly lessons, and it killed my passion completly, didn't really get it back until a few years later, so it's definately not for everyone, but certainly the most effective. I think the key is to play things you enjoy. I spent 7 years playing pieces I had no emotional interest in, and that was not good for me. So, to sum it up, have fun, but get a book, probably. You wanna get your basic techniques right at least, cause those bad habits are not only hard to turn, but you probably will never be able to. |
