The greyed out ones? It just indicates a level of dynamic contrast, aka play them much lighter than you would the black ones. |

Ennea is correct about the greyed out notes in the Guitar Pro file. They represent a different voice than what you currently have selected. Accented notes are usually marked by a ">" or a "^". The actual volume of notes are often identified as mezzo forte, forte, fortissimo, etc. EDIT: Here is a gif that I quickly made illustrating how to use the different voices options: I prefer not to use voices in Guitar Pro for various reasons. A big factor is that there are only two voices available to use. |

This may not be the best example, but here is one using an intermediate voice: I don't think it is the most common thing, but that reason in combination with a few others make it my preference not to use them in Guitar Pro. For example, I don't like the way it works with strums. I also don't like that it doesn't export the second voice value into an ascii file (or at least not by default, and I don't know if there is an option to show it). As far as I know, there is no way to make the cursor hit both voices when playing back a gp5 file, which a lot of people seem to like when they play along with a tab. You're right that the voice separation is for the purpose of sheet music. For making tabs, on the other hand, I just personally feel it is poorly implemented in Guitar Pro and can sometimes even detract from a tab. |

He's looking for the specific measures, I think. A fair request imo. Unless we're not allowed to post them here. [edit] Oh snap, never mind. I hadn't looked at the posted pdf yet.

For reference: The tempo is just a hair under 104. Since harmonics ring out more easily on steel string guitars, and electric classicals if they are plugged into an amp, is there a type-of-guitar limitation on this contest?

Nope. Since this contest is all about the capability to play something as smooth as possible I see no reason for a guitar limitation. Use whatever you feel like ! |

Ah, I assumed that under "accuracy" and "musicality" would be "being able to hear all the notes ring out clearly" as well as "not having any wrong notes". On a side note, I now have this passage playing in my head on repeat over and over, just without the first measure. daaaah. hahaha

You need to play the harmonics with your right hand, like when doing artificial harmonics :O Putting your index right above the 12th and 19th fret bar and pluck the string with your middle oder ring finger! Does noone else have any difficulties ? :D |

I'm fine, I'm really REALLY grateful that this one is easy on the left hand. I think it was a great choice, just for the fact that this emphasizes right hand difficulty. And it sounds so deliciously urban-ambient. We ARE using the capo right? cause he had a capo on 3. I assume you mean "fret 19" in relation to the capo. It being past the classical fretboard (hovering over the soundhole) does make it slightly more difficult, but I think I've got it.

Yeah, I kept your injury in mind by chosing the next challenge xD Regarding the capo - I just realized I didn't make that clear :O Yes, of course capo on 3rd fred is the rule. Everyone that participates here should have at least this much of equipment so I don't think there's a problem with that. RIGHT ???? Oh and I wanted to see if Trang is skilled with his right hand too :> Hope he'll participate! |

Ok, way to go :) The contest this week will contain:
Harmonics, wooh!!
So I decided to pick one of my favourite tabs of all times, or rather the harmonics part only, named
Touhou - Hisouten (I extracted the part already because it would be annoying to scroll all over the stuff everytime)
A example how to play it can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ci1j51FPqc (2:39-3:01)
_______________________________________________________________________
I'll judge by the same rules that were applied last week:
-Accuracy
-Consistency
-Fluidity
-Musicality
-If you can't handle the original tempo, take it slow. A slightly slower but accurate, consistent, fluid and musical entry is better than a fast but sloppy one!
Please keep that in mind, I do not insist in keeping the original speed. However the faster you can play it the better :)
Have fun and good luck!

Entries and reviews:
Please keep in mind that englisch isn't my native language, so if something sounds off or shallow I beg your pardon :D
TrangOuls entry:
Veeeery nice! The speed change didn't sound well when hearing it first, but after second and third time I really like it! Gives the whole thing more of... dynamic touch I guess. Overall, very constant playing with taking good use of the accents, harmonics came out loud an clear, no complains here :P
And I only noticed one mistake (2nd e19), but even that only came out when hearing it more then once.
Clanvers entry:
I can't say anything against the guitar-playing itself, harmonics and all came out nicely and you didn't stumble on the pace... but... man.. You just jumped offbeat so many times that it started to sound really awkward :/ Sadly thats a grave mistake in terms of musicality, everything else sounded so nice! With not even a full day (maybe a hour would've been enough) to practice the beat you could've really nailed it, but I look forward to your future entries :P
Musenjis entry:
Of all the version you've posted (although only was entry was allowed xD) I liked this one the most! The tempo is constant, the playing flawless (even with the accents) the harmonics sound perfect etc. etc.
I don't really know what I can say, there are no real flaws to point out, how much time did you spend on this ?
And therefore the winner this week is: Musenji!!, congratulations!
